Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As you are probably aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  If you're anything like me, you mean to self exam more but always forget about it.  Here's what I'm proposing.  Email, call, or text all the women in your bridal party, your mom, your sisters, your aunts, and your cousins.  Remind them that you're pretty sure they haven't checked in a bit and it's time.  Susan G. Komen's site has a how to.  It can be a bridal buddy system.  As soon as you've created this network... keep it up!  Remind friends to have a clinical exam about every 3 years after age 20 and every year after age 40.  Start yearly mammograms at 40 as well or earlier with a family history.

In addition to starting the dialogue with friends and family, your wedding can be a meaningful place to raise awareness, celebrate survivors, or honor loved ones.  If you and yours are less into the idea of stuff on a registry, suggest a donation to charity.  There is also the option of donating to the charity yourselves in lieu of extravagant favors.  Perhaps a note and a small notion as seen below describing the gift.  After the wedding, consider donating your gown and know the proceeds will help someone when the possibility of a cure is too late.

Interested in learning more about prevention, advocacy or donation?  Here are some of our favorite resources:

Brides Against Breast Cancer

Susan G. Komen Foundation Donation Possibilites

National Breast Cancer Coalition

These breast cancer awareness favors and more can be found on Diva Entertains website.
